Parasite Prevention
Parasite prevention is a key part of keeping your pet healthy, comfortable, and protected year-round. At Valley Dog and Cat Hospital, we offer safe and effective solutions to guard against common parasites like fleas, ticks, heartworms, and intestinal worms. These pests aren’t just a nuisance—they can carry serious diseases that affect both pets and people. Our team will work with you to choose the right prevention plan based on your pet’s age, lifestyle, and risk factors, ensuring they stay protected in every season.
Fleas & Ticks
Fleas are more than just a nuisance, they pose serious health risks to both your pets and your family. Fleas can cause relentless itching, skin irritation, and infections, and they’re known to transmit tapeworms and other diseases. Worse still, fleas can bite humans, turning a pet problem into a household issue.
Ticks can carry dangerous, and sometimes deadly, diseases such as Lyme disease, ehrlichiosis, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and babesiosis. Pets, like people, can become seriously ill from these tickborne diseases. Dogs and cats often pick up ticks while outdoors, but the risk doesn’t end there. Ticks can hitch a ride indoors on your pet’s fur and bite people in the home.
The best way to protect your pet and your home is with consistent flea and tick prevention. Even indoor-only pets are at risk, as parasites can attach to shoes or clothing and make their way indoors. At Valley Dog and Cat Hospital, we offer safe, highly effective flea and tick preventives to keep your pet healthy and parasite-free. Whether you're looking to prevent an infestation or need help treating one, we’re here to help. Call us today to get your pet protected.

Heartworms
Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially fatal condition caused by worms that live in the heart, lungs, and surrounding blood vessels. Over time, this can lead to severe lung disease, heart failure, and damage to other vital organs. Heartworms are transmitted by mosquitoes, so any dog or cat that is exposed to mosquitoes is at risk of contracting heartworm disease. Because of this, we recommend keeping your pet on heartworm prevention all year round.
At Valley Dog and Cat Hospital, we offer two heartworm prevention options: an injectable preventative administered once every six months, or a tasty chewable tablet given monthly.
